which is best mba or pgdm ?? which is more valuable??
MBA: A Master in Business Administration (MBA) is a degree course offered by the colleges affiliated to the universities. So, only universities can offer MBA programmes.
PGDM: A Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a diploma course offered by the institutes that are recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and which are autonomous and not affiliated to any university. However, accreditation by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) makes an institute's PGDM course equivalent to an MBA.
Difference between the curriculum:
Although there are similarities between the curriculum of both, differences exist as well. A student pursuing MBA will be studying more of the theoretical aspects of management. An MBA institute will be following a fixed curriculum as it will be based on the university guidelines.
A student pursuing a PGDM course will be gaining knowledge regarding building soft skills and the programme is more industry-oriented. An autonomous institute does not have to follow university standards, so it is free to change its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. The course will prepare you for a senior level position in a company.
Although the curriculum of both are similar, but the differences are also set there.
A students pursuing MBA will be studying more of theoretical ascpects of management whereas a student pursuing PGDM will be attaining knowledge regarding building soft skills and the programme is more industry oriented.
Well, in case of fees, fees is higher in PGDM than MBA.
MBA course will have a fixed curriculum offered by the universities whereas curriculum can be changed in PGDM. PGDM also prepares you for senior level position in a company.
Thankyou.
i) Institute type -
Only colleges affiliated to an university can offer MBA for their business courses. Eg - FMS-Delhi, NIMT Institute of management etc. Thus MBA is UGC granted course. Where as PGDM is offered by autonomous institutes like IIMs, XLRI, NMIMS, SIBM, Fore School of Management, NIFT, MDI, IMT etc. PGDM offering institutions are a free body not affliated to any university however they are approved by AICTE.
ii) Duration of course -
MBA programmes are now a days two years long as per UGC.
PGDM programmes may last from one year to two years. Usually the two years long PGDM is said as equivalent to MBA.
iii) Curriculum Type -
MBA norms are dependent on the university and curriculum is not frequently revised as colleges cant introduce changes without the consent of the university.
PGDM is more of flexible one as autonomous institutes can introduce elemental changes more frequently to make the education more effective. Usually PGDM courses are way more updated than an MBA.
iv) Focus of the course -
MBA course is more focused towards developing the business and technical knowledge where students usually develops the theoretical concepts that are essential for business world.
PGDM is more focused towards the practical approaches of things which mould students to face real life problems and come up with feasible solutions. Additionally students get industry oriented and adaptable to corporate environment.
v) Fees Structure -
Lastly MBA programmes are a bit affordable where as PGDM course are bit expensive usually ranges from 6 Lacs to 25 Lacs.
Thanks,
