First of all, let me just make it clear that it is a common misconception that B.Tech is offered by Government Institutes and BE is offered by Private or Autonomous Institutes. There is no such thing like this. Now let's get into the minor difference that separates these courses from each other.
Being one of the most popular courses in India, this question is one of the most common ones asked. So the curriculum and syllabus of the both BE and B.Tech are almost similar. The only difference between both the courses is that Bacher of Engineering [BE] is more theoretical and Bachelor of Technology [B. Tech] is more on the practical side.
Actually, the difference lies in the name itself - Engineering and Technology.
Engineering is a science that deals with the theoretical concepts and principles of all subjects involved.
Technology is a science that deals more with the practical side of these concepts and principles.
Leaving this difference both the courses are same in other aspects. Both the courses have good scope in the future. It doesn’t actually matter if you have done B.Tech or BE all the companies consider both of the courses while hiring. Whatever, course you take you will have to gain extra knowledge if you want to be selected in a good company. In the end, it's upto you, not the course.
Hope this answer helped. Let me know if you have any other query.
Hello Sreenithi
B.Tech course is somewhat more practically intensive than the BE course which is more theoretical. The difference (which is quite minor) between the two degrees can be understood from their names itself, Engineering Vs. Technology.Engineering is a "science", dealing more with theoretical concepts & principles; technology deals more with the application of these theories for practical purposes. But, both B.E. & B.Tech courses offered by various engineering colleges/ institutes, have similar curriculum more or less. Both degrees are valued equally by prospective employers. What matters more is the reputation of the engineering college from where you obtain your B.E/ B.Tech degree.
Bachelor in Engineering is a graduate level program done directly after a student's 10+2. After a student's 12th exam, the candidate has to appear for any state or national level engineering entrance through which he or she will get admittance into an engineering college. The course of this degree focuses on theoretical knowledge needed to innovate technology and make new technical gadgets whereas,
Bachelor in Technology is also a graduate level program done directly after a student's 10+2. After a student's 12th exam, the candidate has to appear for any state or national level engineering entrance through which he or she will get admittance into a college that provides technology course. There are many such universities. The course of this degree focuses on application and skill based study and is useful if one is interested in modifying structures to enhance their quality.
B.E. is considered a knowledge oriented course where more emphasis is given on the theoretical part of the curriculum whereas, B. Tech is skill oriented which gives more emphasis on practicals.
Industrial visits and internship might be essential part of the curriculum in BE whereas, Industrial visits and internships are necessary for B. Tech courses.
Institutions that offer these courses are:-
National Institute of Engineering, Mysore
BIT Ranchi
NSIT, New Delhi
Lovely professional university
College of Engineering, Pune
Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi

Hello Sreenithi,
The difference (which is quite minor) between the two degrees can be understood from their names itself, Engineering Vs. Technology.
B.E. is considered a knowledge-oriented course where more emphasis is given on the theoretical part of the curriculum whereas, B. Tech is skill oriented which gives more emphasis on practicals.
Now as AICTE approve courses most of the courses are the same and identical for BE and B.Tech. The universities those offering BE when started new courses named them to B.Tech too.
BE and B.Tech or ME and M.Tech are same. Both of them are the same and have similar scope and future. If there is some notification for BE, B.Tech’s are also eligible to apply and vice-versa.
Hope this helps.
Hi Aspirant! Generally, BE is offered by educational institutions that have courses apart from Engineering.
Whereas, Btech is offered by colleges that offer Engineering only.
However,The value and Return on investment are equivalent for both. And so is the brand repute.
Hence, the matter of consideration is the college , its rankings, its Placement Assistance, Faculty and Alumni support.
Btech is offered by all IITs , NITs and IIITs and are simply best and widely recognized!
Also,BE has attracted equal employment opportunities.
So, you can choose any, there is no big difference. Choosing any of the above will be a wise decision!
All the best!
