Dear Aspirant,

Firstly, lets discuss job opportunities. Since both the subjects are quite interrelated, biotechnology depends on many basic laboratory techniques of microbiology, while further development of microbiology is quite dependant on biotechnological methods, it is quite common to share the same job opportunities.Having said that having a Biotechnology degree opens up many more doors, in various fields like industrial processes, management jobs while microbiology jobs are more research oriented. You also have an option of doing an MBA in Biotechnology, which a new and emerging field of work.

The job market while not absolutely lucrative is growing with the Biotechnology sector on the increase in India. There are jobs in the agricultural, pharmaceuticals, medical and various other fields, making it a very flexible subject. Also, there are many independent Biotechnology start up companies that promise a good future. After a few years experience, the salary does increase, as does your market value.Biotechnology and Food Technology are two different streams. At its core, Food technology is a subset of Biotechnology. Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary stream that has subsets within, one of them being Food Technology apart from Industrial Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Agricultural/Plant Biotechnology, Animal/Mammalian Biotechnology. While Biotechnology has both an industrial and academic research element to it, Food Technology mainly revolves around Industrial research and finds scope in its Food Industries.

Biotechnology opens many doors, offering you opportunities in different sectors of the Applied Biosciences. If you are undecided and are looking to find a place in a sector, Biotechnology would be a better option over Food technology.

Food Technology, on the other hand, specializes you in the food sciences and development of food technologies. If that interests you, you would be a happy member of the community.

In the end its all up to you which course you want to do.

You can decide that my considering your interests , what you want to do after Bsc ( you want to do master , job) which work profile you want to follow.

The tre streams are equally good

Hello Aspirant...... hope you're doing good..

Well, doing B.sc in any of the branches you mentioned have nearly same job opportunities in the near future. So it is basically upto your interest and desire to choose which branch. If you have passion for biological processes and have biology as a subject in senior secondary examination, then it's better to go for microbiology or bio technology rather than food processing. Micro biology has a lot of research work and you'd really enjoy this branch.

Hope this helps you out.....

Best of luck:)
