Hello,

First of all there's no restriction in terms of subject combinations or belonging to particular stream, UPSC allows candidates from all backgrounds to appear for the exam, candidates need to attain 21 years age, and pass graduation in any discipline from a recognized university,  you can also appear in final year if graduation, now the thing is there are two ways to pursue IAS; one is if you're wholly and solely focused on cracking this exam, then yes having humanities background at 10+2 level and further ahead in graduation will help you a lot, in case you're not sure if you have any other career preferences such as Medical, Engineering, or something different, even then you can appear and qualify this exam, if you look at the last few years toppers many come from diverse backgrounds, also it's good to have back up plan in such cases.
