• National Institute of Technology Surathakal has a higher rank.
• Median salary is comparatively more.
• Wi-Fi and cafeteria is not provided in IIEST Shibpur...

I hope you are doing fine, IIEST Shibpur is an "Indian Institute" and an INI like IITs / IISc while NITs are "National Institutes" having a Lower Budget than IIEST. IIEST is considered Higher Level Institute than NITs and accordingly Govt. of India has sanctioned Higher Budget for IIEST similar to IITs but Higher than NITs. Hope now you understand the Difference between an "Indian Institute" and a "National Institute".

Now coming to course there is a slight difference between ECE and ETE. Both the branches have same syllabus . From the last year like 5th or 6th sem there some changes in subject. From a job perspective there is no difference same placement same opportunities.

ECE is particularly related to transmission of electric signals and circuitry whereas ETE is majorly focused on advanced telecommunication and networking.

In ECE you will mostly deal with all the application which makes our life easier like mobile computers etc. . which is design and develop by these engineers, on the other hand, ETE you will cope with microprocessors, analogue communication, digital and analogue integrated circuits, satellite communication, antennae and wave progression, solid-state devices, voice and data etc.

See both the institutes are of great repute and both of them are great. But if you need to distinguish then I would recommend you to go for the IIEST. The reason behind it because:

• IIEST have better approach to research
• IIEST offers slightly a better placement aspect
• The packages in IIEST Shibpur is much better than that of NIT.
• The faculties in IIEST are more into research.

Currently MHRD / NIRF Ranking has placed IIEST at "7th by Research Parameter" and 20th overall placing IIEST Above almost All NITs except two or three very old NITs. Naturally IIEST is Better than All the NITs you have mentioned for B.Tech / M.Tech and particularly for M.Tech considering Research. By Research IIEST is just after six old IITs and Above All other IITs and NIITs taken together.
I would place Old IITs / IIEST / Old NITs/ New IITs / New NITs as shown below.

1. Six Old IITs - They are The Best in India and Comparable with Bests in the World.

2. IIEST - Ranked 7th in Research by MHRD / NIRF - Just after six old IITs and Above All NITs. Check Wikipedia / MHRD / NIRF ( Research Parameter) .

3. New IITs - They are Above most of the NITs except may be few Old NITs. But New IITs will be Above All new and old NITs very soon.

4. Old NITs - Better than few New IITs but Above All New NITs

Please select your college keeping above ranking in view.
