Which is better option 2 year LLM or 1years
Hi Jyoti Dudhsagare !
A Master of Laws (LLM) is an internationally-recognized, second-level law degree offered in many countries around the world. LLMs are offered at the graduate level and in many countries an LLM, or equivalent degree, is required before a graduate can practice law.
The one year integrated LLM is less time consuming, one saves an academic year against a 2 year LLM. The one year is at par with the 2 year course in terms of value and is very much recognized by UGC.
On the contrary, if one wishes to gain deeper insight and knowledge and prepare well for Dissertation, I will advise 2 year LLM as there shall be ample time and scope to focus on research and your readings.
In short, if you are looking for job prospective or career growth point of view one year LLM is advisable, but if you are looking forward to gather deep academic knowledge and insight on legal intricacies then I will advise the 2 year LLM course since the one year LLM you will find on certain occasions to be a hectic given the assignments, semesters, practicals, viva, dissertation everything that is part of the curriculum and compiled in one academic year.
Hi Jyoti,
The basic issue between the two durations of LLM is that some organisations and PSUs do not consider a one year LLM to be valid. Thus, in order to be on the safer side and to have more options available for yourself, it is better if you opt for a two year LLM. However, another aspect to this question of yours is that if you are pursuing LLM solely for the purpose of research, and want to appear for some other competitive exam requiring a degree, you might want to save one year's time and do a one year LLM as well. It entirely depends upon what you want to do in the future. A 2 year LLM will laos provide you with deeper insights and opportunity to gain expertise in the said feild.
