First of all check the cutoffs of all NIT's and IIT's of this year for the first round.
After seeing the cutoffs of all the NIT's and IIT's if you have a full confidence that you can work hard for the year and get that percentile by giving JEE mains
And JEE advance.
As you have mentioned that you have just appeared for mains so you have the idea of level of toughness for mains paper.
But you haven't appeared the paper for JEE advance.
For getting into NIT's and IIT's more than mains score advance score matter alot.
In my view
Getting into NITs and IITs is much more better option than doing the BTech from any ordinary college.
Good luck
Than take a gap. And prepare as per that.
Do full hardwork
If you think you can continue studying for one more year, then you can take a drop and give the exam again next year. But in this case, do take up coaching classes as the chances of selection increases.
On the other hand, if you cannot take the study load then, take admission into the college you are being alloted to.
