Hello Aspirant

Overview

Physical Therapy is also known as Physiotherapy. It is mostly used to improve a patient’s quality of life through aid at different stages of an illness or injury. Most of the physiotherapists have to specialize in a specific clinical area. There are many areas such as cardiovascular physiotherapy, neurological, geriatric, pediatric and more.

A physiotherapist works mainly under rehabilitation. The basic therapy includes exercising, massaging, stretching, medication.

Courses

To become a physiotherapist, one generally opts for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT). There is B.sc (Bachelor of Science) also in Physiotherapy but most of the hospitals prefer BPT over B.Sc. A BPT degree specialises you in Physiotherapy. One can also opt for Masters of Physiotherapy (MPT) at the post-graduate level.

Future Scope

Physiotherapy jobs may be found at:

  • community health centres,
  • mental health centres,
  • nursing homes/private care centres,
  • rehabilitation centres,
  • sports clinics,
  • fitness centres
  • government hospitals
  • the Institute of the Physically Handicapped
  • Defence establishments
  • Teaching establishments
  • Their own clinic

Due to the increase in the prevalence of illness, physiotherapy as a career field has seen a rise. The average salary for an employed physiotherapist is around 5000 to 7000 per month. One can earn more through a private practice. This is one advantage of physiotherapy that one can always open their own clinic if there are low chances of securing a job. One can also work part-time with health institutes and hospitals.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for doing bachelors in Physiotherapy, one needs to have a minimum 50% score in twelfth grade in science (Biology-Chemistry-Physics) stream. Most of the colleges follow this eligibility criterion; some might have certain exceptions but it depends on the university.

So, if one is interested in Physiology then one should go for it as the career field has a lot of untapped opportunities.

I hope that I have answered your question.

Best of luck!

Physiotherapy is a professional course. One thing to keep in mind is that, opt for physiotherapy if you are passionate about the job that you are going to pursue. The job can be hectic at times. There are ample opportunities in this field.

Regarding Bsc, it is a general course that set your path for the future. You can decide what specialisation you want after this, or give any entrance for some job. It is the basic building block for the career ahead.
