which is better production industrial engineering or only production engineering?from top NITs??

Industrial and production engineering (IPE) is an interdisciplinary engineering discipline that includes the study of manufacturing technology, engineering sciences, management science, and optimization of complex processes, systems, or organizations. It is the application of engineering procedures in manufacturing processes and production methods.
The subjects for this course include:
Physics
Chemistry
Mechanics
Materials science
Computer science
Electronics circuits
Engineering design and mathematics

The major job fields are: Industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering.
Production engineering involves just the manufacturing process and not the industrial level equipmentation. The subjects are almost same as production and industrial engineering but an additional graphics and designing comes to part.
The job opportunities are basically production engineer, process engineer, industrial manager etc..
To understand which is better is based on your skills and interests. Both are great courses and job opportunities are almost the same. If you are more interested in production and design based activities, choose production engineering. If you are more interested in Industrial manufacturing and business methods other than the production field, choose production industrial engineering.

I believe both of them are comparable courses at top NITs and IITs.
Its somewhat like in the case of Metallurgical Engineering its called Material Science at IIT Kanpur, Materials Engineering at IIT Delhi and Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at IIT KGP whereas the curriculum more or less remains intact.
Production Engineering is a suggested choice if you want to develop a career in Software/IT/Finance/Business/Non Core Sector. The curriculum includes key aspects of Management courses, Analytics and Business Subjects as well as Core topics like Operations Research and Production Control. You have a wide range of areas where you can develop a career in. You could perhaps become a Business Analyst at Flipkart or may go on to become an Operations Manager at a top FMCG like Unilever. The Undergraduate course in Production/Industrial/Industial Systems Engineering is very relaxed and student oriented. You will get a lot of time to yourself, and can develop new skills and learn technologies.
