which is better to learn openfoam or ansys?
Hello Aspirant.
having used both softwares and now only using open foam, i would like to point out a few things i have observed over teethe course of my PhD. i would try and respond to few comments others have made bellow:
“ This is because such software comes with fully developed GUI's and dedicated support systems to make it as easy as possible for the first time user to get up and running effectively. “
i don't think fully developed GUI always leads to a more effective learning process, sometimes it actually hinders to ability to grasp the essence of what is happening. especially what is happening behind the scenes, which could help you understand CFD much better and quicker sometimes.
I guess you can learn CFD better using OpenFOAM as compared to Ansys Fluent.
i totally agree with this comment. however i also agree with.
“ It actually does not matter much, so long as you learn it properly. First learn the fundamentals and get familiar with the numerics, generate grids and solve different types of problems. You can learn to use any software quite easily after that.”
however, even though this is also true, as if you learn any very well you will be able to do pretty much the same thing on either platforms.
all in all, for the really complex CFD, i would suggest only sticking to openFOAM. and once you learn open foam i believe all other CFD packages will become allot easier to learn.
Good Luck!!
