Depends on your interests. Civil Engineering is considered easier in practice as compared to Mechanical Engineering. Civil involves designing and construction of infrastructures whereas Mechanical Engineering applies kinetic and dynamic physics to sustain mechanical operations. Correctly evaluate both these choices and make a decision.

Hey Sriram,

Mechanical and Civil Engineering are the two oldest and most applied fields of engineering of engineering. Civil Engineering is primarily about the construction, design and maintenance of the civil  structure, infrastructure and buildings. Mechanical Engineering on the other hand is the simplest word in the engineering stream that deals with mechanics and automobile and other machines. Both the fields of the engineering are evergreen and offer great job prospects to the students. These fields are applied in every sphere of life and in all places of the world. The job openings are available in private as well as government organisations.
Now the question arises that which one is better. Have a look into both below:

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
There are various types of courses available for this field of engineering. There are basic diploma courses as well as Master degree in Mechanical engineering. These course are provided by many reputed institutes like Indian Institute of  technology or National Institute of technology.
Jobs are available to the students who have completed diploma or B.Tech. However for more lucrative opportunities it is advisable to opt for higher studies and other specializations like some below:
1. Tool Engineering .
2. Machine Designing.
3. Mechanical system dynamics and design.
4. Engineering design and analysis.
To enhance the growth prospect several students also pursue MBA after a degree in Mechanical engineering.  The job opportunities are also more for mechanical engineers.

CIVIL ENGINEERING:
Just like mechanical engineering students can apply for a job after completing a diploma or after obtaining a bachelor's degree. However for more lucrative opportunities it is advisable to opt for higher studies and specializations. Some of the specializations are:
1. Geo Infomatics .
2. Structural engineering .
3. Offshore structures.
4. Hydraulics.
5. Highway technology.
Again like mechanical engineering the students can opt for MBA after the degree and specializations. This will enable them to be eligible for managerial posts in the organisations.
Civil engineers ate hired in the organisation's like real estate and constructions, oil and gas development authorities and many more. They are open to both government and private undertakings.
The thing is that both of the branches ate good and have their own merits. Job opportunities are galore in both of them so you need not worry about it. Most often people get influenced by their own interests so if you have a liking for  structures and constructions then opt for Civil Engineering or if you like machines and mechanics and dynamics opt Mechanical Engineering.

All the best.
