Hi, Cusat Kerala currently offers btech in following disciplines civil, computer science, electrical and electronics, electronics and communication, instrumentation, marine, mechanical, Polymer, naval architecture and ship building. It doesn't matter which of them is best ask yourself what you are interested in and that will matter don't go with the flow make your own path. If you are interested in programming go for cse, if electronics is your choice then go for eee or ece like that. Good luck

If you are going to study at CUSAT, then it's better to study at SOE campus, as it has better facilities (infrastructure, labs, accomodation) than CUCEK campus.

Fire and safety Engineering is offered only at CUSAT, so if you get this course, definitely go for it. This is an uncommon course, so more chances to get into core companies than other branches

Civil/Mech/EE/ECE these courses have very few core companies that offer placements, but you will need to learn programming for placements

CS/IT - Most likely to be placed in software companies as they are the core branch.

I think that you should reach out to seniors or passed out CUSAT Alumni to find out their experiences.

Hey aspirant, hereby are some points regarding best courses in CUSAT Kerala.

Cusat has 10 Engineering branches.

There is school of Engineering which has 7 branches

And outside this there are instrumentation, ship technology and marine engg

Ship technology is support to be the best branches here. An under 400 rank will get you in. Qualified proffessors and lacs. Its one of the few govt institutes giving this degree. IIT kgp and IIT M bein other prominent colleges having this couple. Placements are great and usually international type. Hongkong japan etc.

Marine engg and instrumentation too are good departments. Good faculty. Good amenities. Labs. Marine engg has decent placements too. Not sure about instrumentation department. Nonetheless both are respected departments.

Now coming to the 7 branches of school of Engineering.

Civil

Computer science

Electronics and communications

Electrical and electronics

Information and technology

Mechanical

Fire and safety

Without an iota of doubt the three biggest pillars of the school of of Engineering are the Mechanical , electronics &comm and computer science departments.

The Mechanical department is the largest and the most qualified department in SOE. With almost 100% permanent faculties having PhDs from IITs or IISc. This is the most sought after dept in SOE with an under 1000 rank in gen category gauranteeing u admission, which is the lowest in SOE, and second lowest overall after ship technology.Almost 20% of the class has under 400 rank. In terms of studies year after year this department has the highest Pass percentage. Nearly 70%. The department consistently does well in sports and arts. Willing the vipanchika (arts fest) this year. The three best branches ec cs and Mechanical are always competing for the vipanchika with ec being the best. The placements are just as good as any core branches in tier 2 colleges. L&T, CEAT, Godrej, voltas are core recruiters.

The ec department is again high performing department. One of the toughest branches yet they manage a high pass percentage. Thanks to their qualified teachers and quality students. The second lowest cutoff goes to ec. An under 1200 rank would be good enough to secure admission here. One of the best Ec departments in kerala for sure. They have good placements and many companies visit campus for them. Their classes are in old SOE which is separated from the main block. As a result We dont get to see them much. They mesmerize you during vipanchika.

Computer science department again another brilliant branch. Top students there too. Highly qualified teachers. Wonderful placements. Youll find many wizkids here. if youre into computer science and technology stuff its amazing. There is a start up village which is among the best in india. They have tinker hub and a fablab coming up too. Wonderful place to be.

Now many would argue safety Engineering to be among the best branches. I certainly disagree.

They are the best for placements yes. Major PSUs visiting them. Which is great, but as a course they have nothin much to learn. Their curriculum is set up in such a way so as to fill up four years coz the actual matter which relevant to their studies is only one year. So they have easy papers with trimmed syllabus in their curriculum. for eg machine design. Machine drawing is really conceptual and deep and is a core paper for the Mechanical department. But for safety Engineering 2 modules of this subject is divided into four and they have no use of this subject. The core subjects for safety Engineering are really easy and not at all conceptual.

So you might wonder why is there a course like this and why do major companies recruit from here. Thats because every the govt has made it mandatory for every company to have a safety Engineer. And since this branch is so rare they have no gate exam. In earlier days Mechanical or civil engineers did the job. Even now they can do it after doing a 6 months.

I hope thia will help you out.

All tge best.
