National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is the most premium college that you can go to for all things fashion. I’ll try to explain the courses first.

FASHION COMMUNICATION:

The specialization in Fashion Communication can be chosen in the 2nd year This course deals with the mainly the business side of the fashion industry. Courses such as  marketing, communication, how fashion works in international markets, impact of fashion in the society are all combined with professional subjects such as communication design, photography, illustration, fashion journalism, video production and curation.

This course would enable you to deal with working in the entire fashion portfolio. Students get to choose the electives they want in the third and fourth year as per their individual career objectives. NIFT also enables students to produce a series of fashion events which ends up in a fashion event which is attended by over 3,500 people, including industry stalwarts and media representatives.

FASHION DESIGN:

The specialization of Fashion Designing can also be chosen only in the 2nd year. Students who are admitted into the Design program begin specialization in the second year. Major course subjects are intermediate and advanced apparel design, designing using technology, tailoring, international marketing, materials management and so on.

In addition to this, students can also choose subjects as contour and knitwear design, theatre/historical costume, textile design and so on through the selection of elective courses in second, third and fourth year. Some senior students get the opportunity to work with some of Canada's most noted designers. These pieces are judged by high end industry experts and buyers.

Both courses hold good stead in all the NIFTs. If you are someone with a creative frame of mind and believe that you can ace it in designing, I would advise you to go for the Fashion Design course.

If you want to understand how the business side of fashion industry works and build a career in management, then you should choose the Fashion Communications course.

Either way, you would not go wrong with NIFT. Please make sure that you target the top NIFTs especially in major metropolitan cities, so that you get much higher exposure and better opportunities ahead.

It all depends on your calling. Both fashion designing and fashion Communication are good and especially at NIFT things are simply the best as you get world class exposure and opportunities.

If you are good at designing and can create something unparalled that can create trend in fashion industry then go for Fashion Designing.

If you feel that you are better at evaluating fashion and can incorporate the world of photography,film,digital media,performance,music,advertising and Journalism to attract people then you should go for Fashion Communication.

Both these courses are in demands and based on your talent you can easily get placed with big firms dealing in the world of fashion.
