To become an IAS Officer you need to be graduate from any recognized university.

Now coming to your question most of the aspirants prefer humanities degree courses over any other courses due to the fact that it help them a lot during the preparations. You can do B.A, B.A Political science, B.A History etc.

Choose the option which satisfies you best.

All the best

To become an IAS officer you need to crack the Civil Services Exams conducted by UPSC.To become an IAS officer is the greatest achievement in itself because of  the power and respect it enjoys in Indian society Plus,it gives you the opportunity to serve your country.

The basic eligibility criteria for IAS Exams is a Bachelor's degree in any stream or any other equivalent degree. So whether you are an Engineer or doctor or a  graduate from a normal college, you are eligible for this exam.

There are three stages of the Civil Services Exams that one has to go through-Prelims,Mains and Personal Interview.

There are several optional subjects available from variety of streams which makes IAS examination a fair game from candidates from any background be it humanities or technical. It is the writing ability and the way one approaches a particular problem which makes the different.

So,go for the subject that interests you the most and work hard throughout the course your graduation. Keep your basics strong, work on your personality development like body language, interpersonal skills etcetra.

Hope this helps.

Hi jaganathan,

Looking at the syllabus of upsc, bachelors degree in ARTS i.e. BA with history, political science, geography, anthropology, etc must be taken…because these subject together constitute the major portion of the syllabus…Moreover BA course is easier compare to other courses as a result u will get more time to prepare for the other subjects …and also this course is of 3 yrs only.

So,according to me BA would be best for IAS.

Hoep this will help you.Good luck.
