Hello aspirant !

LIVER is the biggest gland in human body. It is an exocrine gland and also an endocrine gland.

The liver is large, reddish-brown organ that lie on the right side of the abdomen weighing about 1.5 - 1.6 kg .The liver is an exocrine gland that secretes bile into the intestine is also an endocrine gland and a blood filter.

Some of the critical functions of liver include secretion of bile juices for decomposition of lipids & vitamins, preparation of proteins for blood plasma that enables blood clotting and also detoxification.

Functions of liver are:

  • Carries out metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates and produces and excretes bile
  • It is responsible to excrete cholesterol, bilirubin, drugs and hormones and to activate enzymes
  • It stores vitamins, minerals and glycogen
  • It is responsible to synthesize plasma proteins namely albumin and clotting factors
  • It detoxifies the blood and purifies it.

The liver is the largest gland in the body and is an accessory organ of the digestive system. it is situated on the right side of the abdomen. Liver is split into the left and the right lobe separated by the falciform ligament. The hepatocytes, cells of the liver have a unique potential to reproduce in response to any liver injury. A gland is a group of cells or an organ that makes and releases substances to other parts of the body. Liver is he largest gland in the human whereas Pancreas is the second largest gland in human body. Liver is also the biggest internal organ in our body. it is situated on the right side of the abdomen.
