Rainfall is the limiting factor for the vegetation in desert areas. Deserts have a maximum rainfall of less than 25 cm per year. Deserts are classified in two types- hot deserts and cold deserts. Examples of hot desert are Sahara desert, thar desert, sonoran desert etc. and that of cold deserts are cold desert in Ladakh, Gobi desert, Taklamakan desert etc.
