Ozone (O 3 ) is a significant component of photochemical smog and is produced by photochemical reactions involving nitrogen oxides and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in the presence of sunshine. Carbon monoxide (CO) is hazardous chiefly because of its great affinity for Haemoglobin in the blood, which can result in a condition known as carbon monoxide poisoning or CO poisoning. Lead is a contaminant in automotive exhausts due to the use of lead-mixed gasoline.
