Hello there!
Both are good fields. On one side where B.tech Biotechnology is more technical B.Sc. Biotechnology is based on more of the theoretical coursework.
Although both theory and practical work are part of the curriculum in both the courses.
Some universities give good placement to freshers in both the courses whereas some require a Master's degree for the same.
With both courses one can get good placement.
Kindly go through the briefing given by the mentor and prepare well for the placement.
Good Luck!

Hello,

Let us get cleared on the basic differences:

  • B.Tech is a 4-year course while B.Sc is a 3-year course.
  • In B.Tech Biotechnology you will learn about other branches of engineering as well while for the B.Sc program you will directly learn about your core.
  • B.Tech biotechnology deals with a lot of laboratory work and more subjects while B.Sc is more theory-oriented.

There are many more differences, but as of now I would want to draw your attention to the fact that a lot of the candidates studying B.Tech degree in Biotech ends up in an IT firm given the demands, however, that is not true if you're pursuing a B.Sc i.e. general degree.

Also, landing up with jobs in the core sector is possible by doing a B.Tech but to bag the same job offer with a B.Sc degree is quite difficult, normally an M.Sc is required. Therefore, in lots of cases Btech is often considered at par with M.Sc.

If you want to keep your options open, going for B.Tech will be the wisest decision, however, if you're certain that you do want to pursue Research, a B.Sc will do you no harm, given the time advantage (1-year less) you will be having.

Last but not the least, if you're a Technology oriented person who likes practical implementation more than theory, go for a B.Tech.

However, if you like hypothesis and theories (which can not always be implemented and tested but are very crucial for research and needs scientific acumen to conceptualize), then go for B.Sc.

To summarize, both the degrees are good in their own way, its you who have to decide based on your calling.

Definitely, if you're looking for a job immediately after your graduation going for a  B.Tech  would be the best bet.

Coming to the second part , placements in this domain are scarce but that doesn't mean its nil. If you belong to a college of repute (top tier college) or even remain in the top 5% of any college whatsoever, you'd definitely bag an offer (placement).

The third part of your question is a bit tricky because it is entirely up to you what kind of a job you want. If you see yourself as a technologist or a research scientist or anything related your core domain, there is no need to do an MBA. But, if you're interested to explore the commercial side of it, you may pursue an MBA.

Hope this helps :)
