which one is better - mechanical engineering or computer engineering

Dear aspirant;

If your fundamentals of Physics (especially mechanics, waves & vibrations, thermodynamics) are clear and find them interesting,and if fundamentals of Maths are clear (especially calculus, 2D & 3D geometry, vector geometry, matrices), you can find mechanical engineering interesting. Good concepts in Chemistry(especially physical, although organic and inorganic also play considerable role) will also come in handy for mechanical engineering.

As for computer science, I can't speak much about it, but if you are very clear with the fundamentals of Maths (especially algebra, matrices & determinants) and if you could strive with abstractions (abstract concepts) easily, computer science will be easy for you.

Now,about the career side. We all notice non-computer science branches in engineering as not having much salaries immediately after college. But average salaries of the remaining branches (mechanical,chemical,civil) catch upto that of computer engineers after some years of experience [1] (mostly 4-5 years;less than that if you prove to be good in your field). So don't limit your preference to certain branches just because they offer higher pays just after graduation. Think about your strong areas and interests too.

engineering itself is a highly pronounced technical field which is divided into various other fields; all unique in its class. two such fields are computer science engineering and the mechanical engineering.
when it comes to the software world, computer science engineering rules and when it comes to the core world, its the mechanical engineering.both of these fields are entirely different ones.
if you are interested in the computer applied field, go for computer science and if working with engines and modelling suits you the best, then go ahead with the mechanical
there is no gender restriction for admission to either of these fields. and coming to employment opportunities, both have bright scope, provided you score well and come out with no history of arrears.
