River Ganga rises from Gomukh in Gangotri glacier and drains into Bay Of Bengal by forming a delta with the river Brahmaputra which is known as Sunderban delta. There are 11 states in the drainage basin of Ganga river, they are- Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. It has the biggest drainage basin in India and serves the largest cultivable area. it drains nearly 26% of the total geographical area of India.
