Hello student, Greetings from Careers360.com!
UPSC offers about twenty five subjects to choose as their optional paper in the mains exam. You can choose courses like history, political science, sociology or subjects which would be more relevent to the GS papers.
Hope this helped. All the best!
Hi,
Well, there is no one, simple answer to this question, as the basic eligibility criteria for the IAS exam is of graduation or any other equivalent degree. Plus, there are several optional subjects available from a variety of streams, which makes IAS examination an equal opportunity game for candidates from any background; be it technical or humanities.
Irrespective of what the past and the current trends suggest, as far as cracking the IAS exam is concerned, it all comes down to the passion and interest of the candidate. Even if you pick the ‘so-called’ ideal steam or the subject, it will not matter until and unless you really are passionate about it. Along with passion, the stream that you choose should also inspire you to study well and study hard as there is no replacement for hard work when it comes to the civil services examination.
Choose the stream which your are interested and start your preparation journey.
is up to you to take the subject of your interest. As you can see every year that many candidates who crack upsc are engineers and doctors. Ashok Khemka, Dr. Faisal of Kashmir are some of the well known examples. Your subject of graduation has nothing to do with your subjects you take for your upsc. It is true that those who planned for upsc at an early stage and take only those subjects in there graduation what they want to take as papers for upsc have a better chance and sometimes get an edge as the case of Tina Dabi 2015 topper. So it is up to you to decide.
So all the best for your future.
