Sociology and political science are both equally important for comparative exmas like upsc , ssc .etc.

But apart from that if you are planning for doing something productive then I will suggest you to go for bachelors in social work , as it's a fast growing field and by working practically in the field of social work during your internship program you will get an insight of it. By taking this field you can join an ngo or can start up one of your own.

Political science and sociology has most importance in their own fields but taking sociology is better for both upsc and pg. Because as per previous years trends the sociology students are qualified in upsc exam than the political science..

But better go for your interested one between these two subjects. For cracking upsc exam most of them taking anthropology as optional because here in this question paper the direct questions from prescribed books are given and it is easy for cracking the Mostly the toppers of upsc will take either anthropology or sociology.

You can also go for political science because it is based on your interests.
