A veterinary doctor is a medical professional with a degree in veterinary science. He/she provides medical and surgical care to animals. A veterinary doctor may also work as a Livestock Development Officer providing care to livestock and look after their breeding to improve animal production such as milk and eggs too and he/she can also be employed at zoos to ensure they are provided with good health facilities and medical care to improve their life expectancy.
To become a Veterinary Doctor, you must follow the below steps :-
Step 1 :- Completion of 10+2 - Aspiring students are required to complete 10+2 in physics, chemistry and biology in order to further study to establish a career as Veterinary.
Step 2 :- Entrance Examination - There are various government and private veterinary colleges offering veterinary science courses. To acquire a Veterinary Doctor degree, you are required to enroll in a Veterinary Science college. Several universities and colleges conduct entrance examinations to provide admissions to students. Candidates are required to appear in NEET for medical studies, besides several universities conducting their own entrance examinations.

- AAU VET: Assam Agricultural University Veterinary Entrance Test
- RPVT: Rajasthan Pre-Veterinary Test
- OUAT: Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT)
- MHT CET: Maharashtra Common Entrance Test
Step 3 :- Bachelors - A veterinary science qualification is a minimum requirement to become the Vet Doctor. After successful completion of the 10+2, students are required to enroll in a bachelor’s level Veterinary Doctor degree programme.

1. After completion of a certificate or diploma programme, the student can further continue their studies and go for a master-level programme without any gap in the academic year. Once the master’s degree is completed, he or she can join the industry with an entry-level position.
2. After completion of a bachelor’s degree, the candidate can start working in the industry with an entry-level role. After gaining an experience of one or two years, he or she can further resume the studies and pursue a master-level programme in the related specialisation. A master is considered crucial for senior-level roles and career progressions. Candidates may get Veterinary Technician Promotions after a M.V.Sc. (Master of Veterinary Science).
