Vijayalaya laid the foundation for the Chola dynasty. He made Tanjore his capital. After assuming the name Narakesari, Vijayalaya constructed the Nishumbhasudini Devi shrine. It is a Hindu temple built by Vijayalaya in the 9th century. Aditya I took up the title of Kodandaram upon defeating the Pallavas.
