The ancient Greek Theophrastus (371–286 B.C.E.) is known as the father, or founder, of botany. he was a student of Aristotle who invented and described many of its principles and is widely regarded in the scientific community as the "Father of Botany ". He is famous for his book, "Historia Plantarum". Linnaeus was a Swedish botanist who is famously known as The Father of Taxonomy. He is known for his books "Systema Naturae", "Species Plantarum". Brunfels was a German theologian and Linnaeus considered him as Father of botany in his listings
William Roxburgh (3 or 29 June 1751 – 18 February 1815) was a Scottish surgeon and botanist who worked extensively in India, describing species and working on economic botany. He is known as the founding father of Indian botany.

Theophrastus is considered as the father of Botany, because of the two great books that he wrote, On the History of Plants and on the Cause of Plants.
He was th student of Aristotle, and due to his contribution of these two big books whose reference is still taken in some works, he is known as the father of Botany. Enquiry into Plants, and On the Causes of Plants are his two books.
