The prime minister of India is the head of government of the Republic of India. Executive authority is vested in the hands of the prime minister and his chosen Council of Ministers, even though the president of India is still the nominal head of the executive. The prime minister has to be a member of one of the houses of the bicameral Parliament of India, as well as head that respective house. The prime minister along with his cabinet, at all times, remain responsible to Lok Sabha. Narendra Modi became the 14th and current prime minister of India on 26 May 2014.
