Hello,

Despite the fact that both services are of similar reputation, most UPSC Civil Services applicants choose the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) over the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Even the highest UPSC test scorers seldom opt to enter the Foreign Service.

A diplomat's life may appear to be highly colourful and affluent. They generally reside in large houses with domestic help. They also have the opportunity to host and attend parties. In addition, unlike their IAS/IPS counterparts, IFS officials are not subject to political influence. When they are stationed overseas, they also have diplomatic immunity in most issues.

Due to greater allowances, the IFS officer pay structure is also higher than the IAS officer pay scale.

In contrast, IAS/IPS officials begin their careers in district headquarters and sub-divisional towns, which may be in distant locations.

As part of their duty, an IAS officer is required to travel often within their district, which may include visits to underdeveloped regions or places afflicted by insurgencies, among other things. During their early careers, an IAS or IPS officer's social life might be severely constrained. The Indian Administrative Service, on the other hand, is an all-India service, whereas the Indian Foreign Service is a central service.

Hope it helped

All the best!!
