The university's history begins with a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister by a delegation of MPs and MLAs in 2009, requesting the establishment of a central agricultural university in the Bundelkhand region. The Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Act, passed by parliament in 2014, established the university.
