Why do students prefer COEP INSTRUMENTATION over PICT COMPUTER?
most of the people don't understand what exactly is instrumentation and control engineering , I am student of this branch so ,
let me explain what's COEP's instrumentation and control engineering means :
even though it's in India still it's only 40 students branch, and if you are not a good student in mathematics and physics or if you are not having enough logical skills to learn things, then you will regret joining this branch , because you have to learn
- advanced control systems ,control system design,
- process labs,
- microcontrollers and microprocessors (how computer hardware works, Arduino ,8051 , raspberry pi etc..and so on ... ),
- Artificial intelligence based automation ,
- you will learn old methods of automation and new methods of automation ( home automation - these new bots like alexa , Google bots etc.) ,
- how exactly industry works in daily life ,
- sensors ,transducers and designing advanced sensors ,
- controllers and controller designing,
- robotics and mechatronics,
- machine learning ,(deep learning for interested people)
- probability and statistics all that one research scholar is expected to be known,
- pneumatic processes ,
- biology (few topics like human anatomy, dna synthesis, dna computing etc..), biomedical instruments ( various medical machines) ,
- power electronics,
- numerical methods and computational techniques,
- IOT, IIOT , industrial automation,
- programming languages like C, C++, MATLAB , python,R
- data science crash courses like building basic regression models upto creating spam detectors and movie recommender systems,
- digital electronics ,
- analogue electronics ,
- optical instrumentation and photonics ,
- pneumatic instrumentation and plumbing (Process automation -_-),
- Digital signal processing , even it has multirate filtering with dsp microprocessor labs ( little bit advanced topic for UG -_-);
- signals and systems
- as it's circuit branch ,so obviously electrical circuits mechanism, basic network theory, electronics measurements etc.. all those basic circuit subjects that electrical engineer learns
- advanced electronics , VLSI,
- Distributed control system and programming like PLC, scada , etc..
- if you want to join cs or learn more then you can have computer science as minor course where you can have DSA, DBMS, OOPs, networks and server subsystem mechanisms,
- and basic front end developer skills like HTML, CSS, JS, angular , etc. ..
- electrical machines
- smart materials (you will learn lots of materials starting with anti anti initials like antibacterial, anti viral , anti microbial, regenrative , anti fungal material , piezo materials ,and so on.. ) (I think this course is inspired by ISRO's mangalyan movie -_-, how those automatic regenerating material works during solar storm this might have clicked in mind department staff and borrowed this course from metallurgy )
- as companies from Japan and Germany come to hire, students also have to learn either basic japanese (upto N5) or German (upto B3 ) (not mandatory but still people go for it )
in short you just say the name of field you will get something about that field in this branch ,
COEP haven't leaved arts, commerce and law also , you will have to study some mandatory zero credit subjects like constitution of India , laws ethics , basic financial planning, business management , basics of micro/macro economics , property rights ,Patents and IPR ,ICs , .... man it's becoming really big now ,... still instrumentation is chill branch , you won't have to do lots of assignments and bogus work, here only logical things are being done
so iff you are an expert in studying then only you can challenge this branch and get maximum output from this branch otherwise you have to regret opting this branch because learning these many variations in subjects from metallurgy to computer science will blow your mind , this branch makes you eligible to join any industry ,it opens gateway to any higher education in any engineering sector... the only thing is, are you worth of accepting this branch as a challenge ?
in initial stages obviously you will only get only 8-9LPA as you have not mastered any particular skill but as you select one particular field among the above fields that you learnt and do your best in that field then obviously you will be earning atleast twice higher than any IT professional of same age . that's the real deal of being a bachelor's of instrumentation and control engineering.
on the other hand PICT Computer is great branch woth good college placement, if you want money and placement ,high success with low study then go for PICT comp. package at PICT compbis way higher than instrumentation of COEP ,but in case of knowledge and showcasing of what actual learning is ,COEP is somewhat experienced.
opt instrumentation in any engineering college of India only if you are having that extra massive courage and energy to learn lot of things in one go.
at COEP instru many students also become heads of many festival portfolios in ,I don't know after studying this much from where they get this much energy to do such stuff . people also go for entrepreneurship and business associated skill development in BHAU E cell ,
so in short go for PICT it's easy peasy and you can get high package with minimal exposure expenditure of our precious life, don't join this instrumentation it is headache for many but also real deal for those hardworking nerds.
every faculty of this instrumentation branch is PhD holder, they will squeeze your energy every day , they are master in manipulation of student's minds , they will first say instru is chill even every coepian knows this dialogue instru is chill!! but in reality it's exactly opposite, you have to study very hard if you want to really master this field
Hey!
COEP has a rich history of more than 150 years and has a much better infrastructure in comparison to PICT. COEP has better facilities and is more trusted among the recruiters than PICT. COEP also has better placements and packages as compared to PICT. COEP also has better placements and packages as compared to PICT. Last time, the average package was around 7-8 LPA for CSE department in COEP.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
