why does the colour of copper sulphate solution change when an iron nail is dipped in it?
Hello there,
Here is your Answer,
When an iron nail is dipped in the copper sulphate solution , the displacement reaction takes place and the iron displace the copper from the solution of copper sulphate because iron is more reactive than copper . Due to this the color of copper sulphate solution change from blue to pale green.
Reaction for the solution is :-
CuSO4 (aq) +Fe (s) ----> FeSO4 (aq) +Cu (s)
Here Cu2+ is acts as an oxidizing agent whereas, Fe acts as reducing agent.
Hope this Information will help .
Thank you:)
