IIT Roorkee is famous as it is Asia's first engineering college, formerly known as Thomson College of Civil Engineering. It has produced many alumni who have made significant impact on the corporate world. According to IIT Roorkee's website, ten alumni have won Padma awards and 25 have been awarded Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology.
