IIMs have been conferred with INI status in India. INI stands for Institute of National Importance which is given to a premier public higher education Institutions in India by a Parliamentary act when the Institution plays the role of a pivotal player in developing highly skilled personnel. IIMs fit this bill because they customise their own course and other related matters. For example, IIMs have 1 year PGPM courses tailored for Candidates with work experience. The first IIM was founded in the year 1961. Today as of 2019, the gender diversity ratio in the IIMs is at 30% giving equal and at times more importance to female candidates. IIMs were the first to introduce the concept of Gender Diversity. The prospects of being placed with a high package with the best in the Industry is what makes Candidates choose IIM as a destination college for pursuing MBA.
