Hi

Ruther Ford used gold for  his experiment because:-

  • He wanted  a metal which is highly malleable so that a very thin foil can be obtained
  • Due to highly malleable property of gold it could be hammered to obtain a very thin foil Without breaking the foil
  • A gold foil with thickness of only 1000 atoms was obtained and that it was perfect for performing the experiment and thus it was used

Thankyou
