Why NEET is made as common Entrance Exam for Medicine in India?
NEET 2024: Cutoff (OBC, SC, ST & General Category)
NEET 2024 Admission Guidance: Personalised | Study Abroad
NEET 2025: Syllabus | Most Scoring concepts | NEET PYQ's (2015-24)
Hello Raja Ram, Greetings!
So basically NEET is the only entrance exam which can get you admission in MBBS/BDS all over India (Apart from the AIIMS). Earlier even MBBS admissions used to be done through the MHT-CET. The advantage of MHT-CET was that it had no negative marking and the students of Maharashtra had more chances of getting into good medical colleges. NEET (which I appeared for, this year but didn’t got through) is on the competitive level and also the competition is huge.
This year statistics were that about 16 lakh students from all over India appeared for NEET with only 70,000 MBBS seats in India.
The reason government made NEET as the common entrance exam is to maintain quality matrices and not to make any luck by chance doctors (As NEET exam has negative marking scheme)
