These kind of things occurs as Engineering is a practical field and it has application as well as employability, the other name to career became to be an Engineer. But due to the production of a large number of not so efficient engineers, the engineering industry is going in a down surge. Also due to not passionate students going into engineering, the quality and innovative power among the engineers are going down. So if you want to go for PCM just go for it or if any other field go for it. But don't believe that just by doing a course you will be successful. You have to know a subject in order to excel in it. So choose your career wisely and also based on your own will and not due to some random believes in our society.

I hope this answer helps. All the very best for your future endeavors!
