Pollination in salvia is favored by means of insects hence pollination is entomophilous. Self pollination is prevented in salvia as the flowers are protandrous. The petals of salvia are bifurcated. When an insects visit the flowers and sit on the petals, the stamens are brought down to the back of insect and pollens are laden on it. Hence, in this way cross pollination occurs.
