The State Government under the 5th and 6th plan grants earmarked for the SKIMS Institute, as the Planning Commission approved of it as a plan project, provided the funds for construction and equipping the Institute. The construction commenced in the year 1976. The Institute was partially commissioned on 5th December 1982.

The plus point in GMC Srinagar is that it has Supplementary Batch system, which is not followed in other colleges. So u have to pass with some minimum marks in the internals so that u are allowed to appear in the finals (external).It’s the preffered college among all the four medical colleges of the state. Faculty is good though its just the beginning but they dont alot you proper marks they always give you less than expected.

SKIMS medical college has better placement opportunities than GMC Srinagar and also it has a great campus with good infrastructure.SKIMS has good medical services for local people Equipped with latest technology.Best Medical college and hospital of Jammu and Kashmir. Well equipped multispeciality hospital. Very nice service. Cost effective treatment and investigations.

At the end of the day you have to be the smarter one making the perfect choice whichever suits you personally.
