Hey there!

It is 100% true that Sociology is quite popular optional among UPSC CSE aspirants.

Pros of taking Sociology as Optional

1.It helps in General Studies Paper - I ,essay paper and General Studies Paper - IV (ethics paper).

2.In comparison to other subjects like History, Political Science and International Relations, Public Administration, Geography etc, Sociology has a shorter syllabus.

The reason why Sociology has a shorter syllabus is it is the newest social science subject.

Anthropology also has a shorter syllabus.

3.You can easily get study materials like reference books, coaching material and notes.

Cons of taking Sociology as Optional

1.The candidate has to be very attentive and know current affairs and social issues.

2.The aspirant needs to think before answering because the questions ask your opinion.

I hope this answer helps you.

Feel free to ask if you have any more queries.

All the best!
