Engineers of any college are allowed to sit for software company placement. Big companies like TCS, Capegemini, LnT Infotech, Tech Mahindra allows each and every type of engineers.

With respect to product companies, if an engineer is good at programming, around 50% of companies allow them or consider them.

One important point is that if an engineer does not know the basics of software programming languages then there is no point of sitting in a software company placement.

There are a few software related branches in NIT that is not CSE. Information Technology will also have a chance to sit in placements in software companies. While the companies do tend to take only core branch's students. Sometimes a student of ECE or maybe EEE can also get placed in the company.
