Short Answer- Homeopathy is a pseudo science

It's very unfortunate that we Indians go behind pseudoscience like this and show reluctance to understand if it has any scientific base. The reason can be the lack of scientific temper in our society, conformity, appeal to majority etc. (you can google if you don't know these terms). An average Indian might not have even heard the term "placebo effect".

Most of the developed countries had this discussion some time back and they all have done extensive studies regarding the efficiency of homeopathy. All these studies showed same result, that homeopathy is not effective for the treatment of any disease . Homeopathy is placebo at it's best. If you have doubt you can read the official verdicts of medical councils of sweden, Australia, UK, US, Russia, Spain, Canada, Hungary etc. And many other EU countries like France, Germany are going to phase out homeopathy from their national health insurance scheme.

I really feel sad for the people who have spend their time for getting bhms degree. Young people should stay away from it.

I did go through the Wikipedia page. But if you look at the countries which have banned Homeopathic medicine, they are France, Spain, Barcelona which are European Countries. If you look at 2017 FDA's public comment in US and Australia, it says that it would strengthen the regulation of Homeopathic products.So there are also Countries which appreciate Homeopathic medicine. This is where you still have hope. Countries like US, New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Canada are few Countries which have good scope for Homeopathy should you be willing to have a career abroad. And the entire Wikipedia page doesn't find a mention of India. So if you have taken admission in BHMS, it should no way hurt your career or opportunities. So do not worry about that.

The practice of homeopathy is not banned in India but in some European countries. The fact if it will be banned in India in near future is unclear too. Your confusion is obvious and anxiety but please avoid taking up the course if it is worrying you so much and is draining your confidence and if you do not have any interest.

Homeopathy tends to be promoted as a philosophical science rather than evidence based modern medicine in India and Germany, that is why they are still widely promoted in some sections of society. Homeopathy has a success rate of 20-45% which is same of placebo effect when combined with body's natural healing ability. This fact is not proved though. Due to lack of proper research on homeopathic remedies, it is really hard to suggest homeopathy to anyone. One of the reason is homeopathy has a very orthodox approach which hinders research and new developments. Still a very large number of people use homeopathy as it is claimed to be good for something like controlling minor injuries, muscular weakness, chronic tiredness even after good diet. It can be used as potent energy booster and strength booster. Its especially good in improving physical endurance and giving you that good calm mindset. This is something homeopathy doctors ensure 100% about.

For now, I would tell you to stop worrying and find what you really want to pursue. Because even after finishing your BHMS degree, you have a lot other things to go for like, psychiatry, endocrinology or hospital management. You do not have to worry about employment if you know what to do next. You can become an enterpreneur or enter into the academic sector. Or you can totally engage yourself for preparing for civil services or other government exams.

India has an excellent scope in Homeopathy and Ayurveda in future. After Germany, India is one of the prime countries where Homeopathy is a very prevalent cure. Studying BHMS, you can become a practisioner, for a long period of time.

However many BHMS Doctors after a certain stage, shift their careers. Some pursue degree in Physiotherapy, Pshychiatry or Pathology, while many get into Academics with reputed coaching institutions for preparing students for NEET UG and PG Exams. In todays date an increasing number of Doctors also consider preparing for CAT, UPSC CSE , Other Prestigious Examinations or perhaps get into entrepreneurship and bring some diversity in their career.
