Anna University has announced that certificate verification for counselling will start from June 8. The random number was released on June 5 where candidates could login to download the same. The application form for TNEA 2018 was available from May 3 till June 2. Anna University had also released the TNEA cutoff on May 17. Anna University will be conducting TNEA 2018 counselling for admission to UG engineering programmes at participating universities tentatively in July. Since there is no entrance exam for the engineering admissions in Tamilnadu, admission to engineering programmes is based on marks obtained by candidates in PCM in the qualifying examination. The 10+2 normalized marks of the candidates will be reduced to 200 and used to prepare a rank list based on which the counselling will be held. From 2018 onwards, the TNEA counselling is completely online, unlike past years when it was held offline.

The rank list of TNEA 2018 will be available tentatively in the fourth week of June for those candidates who have successfully completed the online registration process. For preparing the rank or merit list of TNEA 2018, the marks obtained in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in the qualifying examination would be considered. The rank list of TNEA 2018 preparation process includes normalizing marks obtained by candidates of other boards in the qualifying examination. This is done to factor in differences in difficulty level between different boards and the State Board of Tamil Nadu.

Also, rank list of TNEA 2018 would be prepared based on total marks of 200 (Mathematics – 100, Physics + Chemistry – 100). In case two or more candidates score the same marks in the common merit list, the inter-se-merit of the candidates would be decided in a following order of priority:

  1. Percentage of marks obtained in Mathematics

  2. Percentage of marks in Physics

  3. Percentage of marks in the fourth optional subject

  4. Age of the candidate (the older candidate will be given preference)

  5. Random number assigned (higher number will be placed higher in merit list of TNEA 2018)

The common merit list would include the name and ranking of the shortlisted candidates. To check their random numbers, the candidate will have to log in using their registered email ID and password.

In case of Other State candidates, the 4 th condition (age the candidate) will be the last condition for deciding inter-se merit. Also, the rank list will include the overall rank, region wise rank and community-wise rank of the candidate.

After the publication of the merit list, a week will be given to all applicants to file any grievances. To do so, applicants must contact the Office of Secretary, TNEA, Chennai.
