No .. NPTEL exam score will not effect your semester Grades . So , if you  can't perform well in NPTEL exam , don't worry .. you'll not get any Backlog .

Generally NPTEL exam is given by students of Technical colleges for MAR marks (Mandatory Additional Requirement ).. so you can see, that it's written additional in the term MAR ,  not compulsory .

and these type of online courses basically comes under MOOCs course . MOOCs course is necessary for college students just for extra credit points in MAR .

NPTEL examination don't have any link with your college. SO if you can't score well in NPTEL then you will not get the certificate from the NPTEL. Nothing else will be affected for the NPTEL course. So you have nothing to worry about it.
