The Ph.D. Programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years including course work, and a maximum of six years.

The Doctoral Programme in Management intends to deliver high quality research in management and related subjects to contribute new/ additional knowledge to the discipline leading to award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Management by ASBM University (hereinafter referred to as the University).

This policy has been made in conformity with the University Grants Commission – UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./ Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2016 and subsequent amendments in 2017 and 2018, and shall be subject to UGC regulations and guidelines issued from time to time. It shall come into force from the date of notification by the University and shall apply to every candidate applying for admission, registration, conduct and conferment of Ph.D. degree of the university.


Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D programme, if she/ he has a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC’s 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed), or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognised or authorised by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled and other reserved categories of candidates as per the decision of the University Grants Commission (UGC) from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
  • Candidates possessing Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian institution or from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognised or authorised by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D programme.
  • A person, whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated in ASBM University and the viva voce is pending, may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme of the University.

Admission Details

  • A candidate desirous of pursuing Ph.D. programme under ASBM University shall apply in the prescribed format. A candidate in regular service should submit a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer.
  • Selection for admission shall be done through a two-stage process, viz.,
    • (a) Written entrance test called ASBM Research Aptitude Test (ASBM-RAT),
    • (b) Interview/ Viva-voce
  • All eligible candidates, except those qualified in the UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF) / SET / SLET / GATE or passed M.Phil. or holding Teacher-fellowship, shall have to qualify the URAT with qualifying marks as 50%. The syllabus of ASBM-RAT shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% subject specific.
  • All candidates qualifying ASBM-RAT, and those exempted from ASBM-RAT as above, shall appear for interview/ viva-voce to discuss their research interest / area through a presentation before the School Research Committee (SRC). The interview/ viva-voce shall consider the following aspects: (a) whether the candidate possesses the competence for the proposed research; (b) whether the research work can be undertaken at the University; and (c) whether the proposed area of research can contribute to new/additional knowledge;
  • For selection of candidates, weightage of 70% shall be given to entrance test and 30% to performance in the interview/ viva-voce and the final merit list shall be notified after approval by the Vice-Chancellor.
  • The selected candidates shall thereafter be admitted to the Ph.D. programme on payment of the prescribed fee.
