The guiding assumption of the English major at Ashoka University is that we all like to travel. Even when we are beset by bad weather, dangerous beasts, and visa problems, we like to travel and see new worlds. Some of these worlds might be frightening; many might involve thinking thoughts that we never have before; a few will allow us to recognise ideas that we have had all our lives. Nothing facilitates these journeys better than literature. Whether it is by reading books written by unfamiliar authors or thinking through the intricacies of an idea, literature challenges our minds to expand, grow, travel. All literature involves an imaginative movement outside the bounds of the familiar. We will map such movements across genre – theory, fiction, poetry, drama, film – cultures, and languages. Literatures in translation will be a vital component of our curriculum as we seek to put in conversation texts that have been divided by boundaries of various kinds

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who have appeared for their final board examinations are required to submit the scores of all the subjects they have undertaken as a part of their class XII final board examinations -In case an applicant is awaiting his/her final examination results at the time of filling in and submitting the application form, he/she is required to submit their predicted grades/scores. Predicted grades/scores are the estimated final grades/scores of the Class XII board examinations.

The predicted grades/scores may be provided by the school counselor/any other relevant school authority. In the absence of official predicted grades/scores, applicants also have the option of submitting self-predicted grades/scores -In case an applicant has received only grades instead of numeric scores in class XI and/or XII, applicants will have to submit a school-approved conversion scale for the Admissions Committee to be able to convert the grades into numeric scores.

Admission Details

A holistic selection process aims at determining both the fulfilled and potential merit of an applicant. Candidates will be evaluated on their consistent academic performance, active engagement outside the curriculum, and personal impact in terms of challenges they might have faced and overcome. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their Ashoka Aptitude Test. application will be invited for an interview.
