Course Overview

Chemistry of d-Block Elements, Quantum Chemistry and Spectroscopy course is a four-credit course, part of the UGC curriculum, as an elective and has been given space in the fifth semester of the B.Sc. programme. This course is being offered by Swayam to bridge the digital gap for the students who have not been able to become a part of the digital revolution. It is an initiative by the Government of India.

This course has been divided into two sections. In the first section participants will learn about the characteristics of d-block and f-block elements and in the second section about molecular characterization and its mechanical background.

They will understand the properties of d- and f- block elements, the formation of coordination compounds, and IUPAC system of nomenclature, isomerism, wave-particle duality principle, and normalization of wave functions.

They will also be given an introduction to rotational and vibrational spectra and their part in molecular characterization. Photochemistry and electronic spectroscopy is also a part of the course.
