What are main subjects in food science gitam

Here's the breakdown as of March 28th, 2025: GITAM (Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management) has some pretty cool Food Science and Technology programs, both for undergrads (B.Sc.) and grads (M.Sc.). They're really focused on giving you a solid understanding of what makes food tick – from how it's made to how to keep it safe and top-notch. Let's take a look at what you'd be studying:

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Food Science and Technology: The B.Sc. program is all about giving you a strong base with science classes along with the specifics of food science. You’ll get a really well-rounded education! Here's a taste:

Food Chemistry: This dives into what food is made of – proteins, carbs, fats, the whole shebang – and how they all interact when you're processing or storing food.

Food Microbiology: You'll learn about the tiny organisms in food, the good and the bad, and how to control them to keep our food safe to eat.

Food and Nutrition: This is where you'll learn about the nutrition side of things, what our bodies need, and how different nutrients keep us healthy.

Technology of Plant and Animal Foods: You'll get into the nitty-gritty of processing plant-based and animal-derived foods. The goal? Making them better and last longer.

Food Engineering: This one's about the engineering behind food processing – think designing equipment, understanding heat transfer, and how fluids move in food production.

Functional Foods: Ever heard of "superfoods?" This is where you'll learn about foods that do more than just give you basic nutrition, like probiotics or fortified stuff.

Sanitation and Hygiene: Pretty straightforward – it's all about keeping things clean in food processing to avoid contamination. Super important!

Food Packaging and Preservation: What keeps food fresh? You'll explore different ways to package and preserve food to make it last longer while still being good quality.

Food Quality Control: This is all about the tests and standards that make sure our food is safe and good to eat.

Fermentation Technology: Get ready to learn about using tiny organisms to ferment foods and drinks – from old-school methods to the latest tech. Basically, these subjects are designed to give you the skills and knowledge you need to do well in the food industry.

Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Food Science and Technology: The M.Sc. program takes what you learned as an undergrad and goes even deeper. You'll be tackling more advanced topics and getting into research. Here are the core subjects:

Advanced Food Chemistry: This is where you investigate those complex chemical reactions that occur in food, such as Maillard browning and lipid oxidation, and how they affect food quality.

Advanced Food Microbiology: You'll zoom in on how microorganisms spoil food, ferment it, and preserve it – all at a molecular level.

Food Safety and Regulations: Get ready to learn about all the food laws, standards, and agencies both here and around the world that keep our food safe.

Sensory Science: How do we taste, smell, and feel food? You'll learn how to evaluate food based on those senses.

Food Biotechnology: This is where you'll learn how to use biotechnology to make food better, including genetically modified organisms and enzyme tech.

Research Methodology in Food Science: This gives you the tools to design, run, and analyze food science research, including stats and scientific writing. This program is built to get you ready for leadership positions in research, teaching, or the food industry itself.

So, to sum it up, GITAM's Food Science and Technology programs give you a really solid education that mixes book smarts with real-world skills. When you graduate, you'll be ready to make a difference in the food industry, ensuring we all have access to food that is safe, nutritious, and high-quality.
