Manipur University of Culture, Imphal: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Manipur University of Culture, Imphal, (MUC) is a state University established in 2015 which is basically engaged in the propagation and conservation of the cultural wealth of Manipur. Situated at Palace Compound, Imphal East, this single institution provides numerous traditional compulsory courses in arts, music, dance and cultural studies. UGC approved, MUC has a strength of 408 students in total and 91 faculty members in total. As of now, the university offers 19 courses across the ten areas of specialisation, ranging from Undergraduate to Postgraduate Levels, Eight undergraduate programmes and eleven postgraduate programmes in areas of visual art, dance music, theatre and tribe.

Manipur University of Culture owns various infrastructures equipped to enhance the academic and cultural activities. The library was set in October, 2016 and it contains 2250 printed books, photocopies of 500 rare books and 2500 digitalised books. It also receives everyday regional and national dailies, weeklies, newsletters and other periodicals related to performing arts and history and culture of Manipur especially. MUC has facilities for each department that include laboratories, sports facilities for students and staff, mini auditoriums and a canteen. It also has a health centre equipped with first aid services, good information technology centre, a gym and appropriate classrooms to support learning.

In total, MUC delivers 19 courses, of which 8 are undergraduate and 11 are postgraduate courses which includes BA programmes and MA programmes etc. All the courses as of now are full time, regular programmes for which the student is imparted a concentrated knowledge and skill on different features of Manipuri culture and arts. The university enrollments constitute 408 students in all courses offered, which emphasizes the trained higher education prime in specific niche areas. although actual graduation data for the current year is missing, the university remains to provide skilled human resources for the cultural industry.

Like most Manipur University of Culture, the admission process is complete and admits only the most suitable candidate depending on the choice programme offered by the University. For the undergraduate courses the admission criteria comprises written assessment test (50 marks), practical/demonstration assessment test (35 marks) and oral interview/viva voce (15 marks). In this way, students gain not only the required minimum of theoretical knowledge in their chosen field of training, but also practical skills. For postgraduate courses testing involves submission of written entrance tests Modes of testing include presentations and interviews, and it depends with the department or subject being pursued.

Currently, application at MUC is conducted once a year, but no deadline of the subsequent academic year is mentioned. Diversity cannot be ignored as a particular focus of the university, the cultural study and traditional art provide students huge opportunities for personal growth and Manipuri culture development.
