The National Institute of Design Assam was established in 2019. NID Assam was started under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. NID Assam is recognised as an institute of national importance

National Institute of Design Assam courses include B.Des Textile and Apparel Design, B.Des Communication Design, and B.Des Industrial Design. To get admitted to the courses at the National Institute of Design Jorhat, the candidates must appear for the NIT DAT entrance examinations.
