Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University is a central university that was developed in 1987 and located in New Delhi, India. It was known as Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, acquired Deemed University status in the year 2002 and also got the Central University status in 2020. The aim of the university is focusing on the encouragement and conservation of Sanskrit literature. Located in a campus of 10.65 acres, it has 75 courses from 8 degree programmes where the total number of students intake is 1496. The university is accredited by NAAC and approved by UGC and thus it stands as one of the foremost universities in learning Sanskrit in India.

Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University has training facilities for academics within modern society and for its teaching processes. The library is a knowledge hub with over one lakh collections of books, journals, newspapers, and periodicals on various disciplines, and it focuses on the Sanskrit scriptures. With regard to accommodation’s students, there are independent boys and girls phone hostels fully furnished with modern comforts such as LAN, computers, and playrooms.

The university offers 76 full-time courses at undergraduate, master, doctoral, and diploma levels of study. The total student enrollment on all courses is 1496. The renowned courses offered include BA Shastri, MA in various Specialisations in Sanskrit, B.Ed, M.ED and Ph.D in various fields of Sanskrit, and M.Phil.

The pattern for admission to the SLBS NSS University is whereby the candidates sit for entrance examinations. For the undergraduate courses such as the BA Shastri, however, an entrance examination is conducted. Many postgraduate programmes, like the MA programmes have entrance tests given to the candidates by the university in which they wish to enrol. Admission to B.Ed. and M.Ed. programmes at this university requires candidates to write the All India Combined Entrance Test and an interview. Degree courses (Ph.D.) require students to score well on the All India Combined Entrance Test and an interview.
