Course Overview

It can be scientifically interesting to research human genetics, but it also has lots of practical applications. A detailed understanding of the human genome can have significant legal, social and medical effects, from the use of DNA in court proceedings to the development of new treatments for genetic diseases. One of the most compelling reasons for researching the human genome is understanding the genetic basis behind the human illness. Early diagnosis can help improve the quality of life or even prolong the lifetime of sufferers, but many genetic conditions are not treatable.

Current genetic therapy clinical trials deliver the promise of future therapies that can provide a symptom-free life to sufferers. Diagnostic tests may help couples determine whether to risk passing on to their children particular disease related genes. Tests allow doctors of in vitro fertility to precisely pick embryos which do not bear the hazardous gene.

This Human Genetics programme from SWAYAM will be teaching it’s candidates about human genetics at an undergraduate level. This 12 weeks programme will be delivered through online and candidates will be able to do the programme at their comfort.

Eligibility Criteria

Certification Qualifying Details

The Human Genetics programme certification will be done according to marks obtained in the internal and external assessments. In the internal assessment or assignment, there will be a total 30 marks and candidates should score 40 percent at least. Like that in the end term exam which has 70 marks in totals, candidates should score 40 percent at least.

What you will learn

Knowledge of genetics

Candidates will have deep knowledge and in depth insights in these, after the competition of the Human Genetics programme.

  • Dermatoglyphics, human karyotype, pedigree analysis, banding techniques, chromosomes, ultra structure of chromosome, heterochromatin, euploidy and monoploidy, haploidy and polyploidy, aneuploidy and nondisjunction and more.
  • X- and Y-linked inheritance, multifactorial and mito diseases, oncogenetic, tumour suppressor genes, cells of immune system, genetics of immune system, innate adaptive immunity and I response and more.
  • HGPs, genetic markers-SNPs and applications, genetic markers-CNVs and InDels and their implications and so many more about human genetics.
